Once, Jesus and His disciples set out in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. A terrible storm arose, and the waves crashed over the little vessel, putting them in great danger. The disciples were terrified, but Jesus slept peacefully, undisturbed by the storm. As the wind howled and the sea grew more violent, the disciples grew more afraid. They went to Jesus and woke Him, crying, "Master, do You not care that we are drowning?" Jesus rose and spoke to the wind and the sea, saying, "

Peace, be still!" Immediately the wind died down and the sea became calm. The disciples were filled with awe and wonder, saying to each other, "Who is this man that even the wind and the sea obey Him?" They did not yet understand that Jesus had power over all things.

Another time, the disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee, expecting Jesus to join them later. A sudden storm came up, as before, and huge waves piled up. The lake was narrow and deep, and storms often struck with little warning, causing much harm. The disciples struggled to row against the wind, and the boat was tossed about in the middle of the sea. Toward morning, Jesus came walking on the water toward them. When the disciples saw Him, they thought He was a spirit and cried out in fear. But Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." Then Peter said, "Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water." Jesus said, "Come." Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But his faith wavered, and he began to sink, crying, "

Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him, saying, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" When Jesus climbed into the boat, the wind stopped, and soon they reached the shore. Then the disciples worshiped Him, saying, "Truly, You are the Son of God."
